United States

In the United States, no canonical jurisdiction has been erected for the Russian Greek-Catholic Church. Accordingly, its faithful are canonically subject to the local Latin Ordinary within whose diocese they reside.

In their wisdom, however, most Latin Ordinaries whose canonical jurisdictions encompass faithful and temples of this Church have invited Eastern Catholic hierarchs to provide episcopal services to or otherwise particpate in the spiritual oversight of the Church's parishes and missions. As a consequence, the Eparch of Newton of the Melkites formally exercises a spiritual omophor with regard one such parish and affords hierarchical services informally to another. The Eparch of St George in Canton of the Romanians does similarly with yet another of the communities.  A Melkite presbyter serves the fourth such parish, albeit there is no formal or informal agreement in place as to involvement by the Melkite hierarchy in this instance.

Included in these listings is a historical entry for the sole former US mission of the Russian Catholic Old Ritualists, a constituent body within the Russian Greek-Catholic Church. Regretably, the Old Ritualist Catholics no longer have a presence within the United States.

Teachings of Christ

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45 ESV)

Seventh Ecumenical Council

O Christ our God, You are most glorious, * for You established our Fathers as lights upon the earth * and through them led us to the true faith. * O greatly Compassionate One, glory to You! (Troparion, Tone 8)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

The Son Who shone forth ineffably from the Father * was born two-fold in nature. * Beholding Him, we do not refuse the image of his form, * but piously depicting it, we honor it faithfully. * Therefore the Church, holding fast to the true faith, * kisses the icon of the incarnation of Christ. (Kontakion, Tone 6)

(Troparia of the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council)

Random Proverb

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7 ESV)

Pray Without Ceasing

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

Those who have truly decided to serve the Lord God should practice the remembrance of God and uninterrupted prayer to Jesus Christ, mentally saying: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."

St. Seraphim of Sarov
