Feast of the Holy Glorious Prophet Elias

And [Elijah] said to her, “Give me your son,” and he took him out of her arms and carried him up to a loft where he slept and laid him on his own bed. He cried to the Lord and said, “O Lord, my God, have You brought tragedy upon the widow with whom I live by killing her son?” And he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried to the Lord and said, “O Lord, my God, I pray that You let this child’s soul come into him again.”

The Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he was revived. Elijah took the child and brought him down out of the chamber into the house and returned him to his mother, and Elijah said, “See, your son lives!” (1 Kings 17:19-23)

International conference on violence against Middle East’s religious minorities

CWN - Representatives of 56 nations and 11 international organizations gathered in Paris to discuss how best to assist the victims of ethnic and religious violence in the Middle East.

The meeting was hosted by the foreign ministers of France and Jordan.

Participants adopted an action plan that included “supporting affected populations and facilitating durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced persons, fighting impunity and ensuring justice,” and “preserving the diversity and plurality of the Middle East.

Addressing the participants, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, lamented the “unprecedented atrocities” of the past year and called for a change in the legal culture of the Middle East that would allow for freedom to convert as well as to worship.

The prelate also asked the international community to “guarantee the right of refugees to return to their homeland and live in dignity and security” and called upon nations to ensure that their schools foster understanding rather than extremism.
