HAVANA, Cuba, JULY 13, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Latin American bishops, under the newly elected leadership of their episcopal council, have renewed their dedication to evangelization in a letter sent to Benedict XVI.
The bishops are meeting in Havana for their 31st ordinary assembly and just elected a new president on Tuesday: Archbishop Raymundo Damasceno Assis of Aparecida, Brazil.
In Wednesday's letter, the prelates thanked the Pope for his authorization to publish the document that details the conclusions of the 5th General Conference of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Brazil in May.
They promised the Holy Father a "renewed ardor in tireless evangelization so that our peoples have life in Him."
