Minsk, Jun. 5, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone will visit Belarus later this month, the Vatican has announced.
The Vatican Secretary of State will travel to the cities of Minsk, Pinsk, and Grodno, meeting with both Catholic bishops and government officials, on his visit from June 18 to 22. His visit to Belarus-- a country whose government is strongly allied with Russia, and shows a heavy official bias toward the Russian Orthodox Church-- comes in response to an invitation from Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz of Minsk.
Cardinal Bertone has made several trips abroad already this year, traveling to Cuba, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine since the beginning of 2008.
