On June 6, 2008, in the city of Kyiv at the Church of Saint Basil the Great, a meeting of the personnel of the Patriarchal Curia of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church was held. At the meeting took part: His Beatitude Lubomyr, Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych, Most Rev. Bishops Dionisii (Liakhovych), head of the Patriarchal Administration, Hlib (Lonchyna), head of the Department of Church Commissions, Volodymyr (Viityshyn), head of the Patriarchal Finance Department, Stepan (Meniok), head of the Liturgical Commission, Bohdan (Dziurakh), secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC, and heads and personnel of structural departments of the Patriarchal Curia. A previous general meeting in which all the personnel of the Curia took part was held on January 17, 2008.
In his introduction, Bishop Hlib briefly outlined the program of the meeting and its main points. On that day the meeting was divided into two parts: the speech of the Head of the UGCC about the Patriarchal Curia as such and its task in the life of the Church; and a block of financial questions.
Consequently His Beatitude Lubomyr spoke. The Head of the UGCC noted foremost that the Patriarchal Curia is the executive branch, whose task is to help the Head of Church carry out the decisions of the Synod and daily tasks in the administration of the Church. "Since royal times and until recently we did not have anything like a patriarchate. There was a metropolitanate, there were metropolitans, eparchies and their bishops. But, as far as I know, there was no patriarchate. Therefore this is something new in the structure of the Church... We are not trying to reproduce what was, but realizing something new. We are on a search and that is why, knowing about this, we have to accept with understanding structural changes in the curia," His Beatitude Lubomyr said consequently. Then he explained the principles of activity of the Patriarchal Curia and on this basis presented the modern status of the Patriarchate of the UGCC.
Then each participant was able to express his opinions in relation to the theme of the talk, and in addition to this posed questions to the Head of the UGCC. In conclusion, the participants of the meeting received more exhaustive and exact information on the modern status and plans of development of the Patriarchate of the UGCC.
The second part of the meeting consisted of analyzing the status of financing structural subdivisions and the curia itself. In this part, Bishop Volodymyr (Viityshyn) spoke about the general budget of the Patriarchate, sources of its funding, and about priority areas of use.
