20081125 - cwnews.com - A curator at Russia’s national fine art museum has blasted Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexei II for requesting that Andrei Rublev’s famed icon of the Trinity be temporarily moved to a monastery for the veneration of the faithful. The Tretyakov Gallery’s Levon Nersesyan said, ‘If we obediently give in to someone’s idiotic whim and carry this icon 70 kilometers and back, place it in a cramped church with hundreds of lit candles and crowds of pious pilgrims lunging to touch it, nobody would be able to guarantee its safety.’ The icon dates from the 1420s.
