CWN - Egyptian interim president, Adly Mansour, paid a rare visit to the leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church on January 5.

Mansour met with Coptic Pope Tawadros II at the cathedral of St. Mark in Cairo. It was the first time in 40 years that an Egyptian government head had visited the cathedral to call upon the leader of Egypt’s Christian minority.

The current Egyptian government-- installed after the July coup that overthrew Mohammed Morsi and his government backed by the Islamic Brotherhood—has sought to diffuse tensions between Muslims and Christians.
