CWN - The head of the Russian Orthodox Church-- the largest of the autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches-- has weighed in on the issues he believes should be discussed during the 2016 pan-Orthodox council convoked by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople.
Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow believes that the council should consider “the driving of Christians from the Middle East and Northern African regions, the issue of a cult of consumption, which is the primary cause of the economic crisis, the destruction of morals and family, and the issues of cloning and surrogate mothers,” according to a report by the Russian news agency Interfax.
Patriarch Kirill also believes that the council should not issue decisions by majority vote, but only by the unanimous vote of the heads of all of the Orthodox churches.
