CWN - The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the largest of the Eastern Catholic churches in full communion with the Holy See, welcomed Petro Poroshenko, who was elected Ukraine’s president on May 25, to his cathedral on the Feast of the Ascension.
Poroshenko will assume office on June 7.
“Today we have to welcome conciliarly the winner of the presidential race, Petro Poroshenko, with a national choice, with that confidence which the Ukrainian people expressed him, with the gift of great responsibility laid upon him by the Lord God,” said Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk.
The prelate described the election as “another step in the salvation of our united state: one more step to have peace and harmony in our nation.”
