CWN - At the conclusion of his June 29 Sunday Angelus address, Pope Francis issued an appeal for prayers to Mary for Iraq amid the “very painful” news coming from there.
“I join the bishops of the country in appealing to government leaders because, through dialogue, it is possible to preserve national unity and avoid war,” the Pope said. Recalling the “thousands of families, especially Christian, who had to leave their homes and are in grave danger,” the Pope said that “violence begets more violence; dialogue is the only way to peace.”
