CWN - Kidnappings of Coptic Christians are on the rise in Egypt, the Fides news service reports, and members of the Christian minority have appealed to President Abdel al-Sisi to provide better security against the menace.
In one city, Nag Hammadi, 72 people have been kidnapped in the past 3 years. Although three have been killed, in most cases the kidnap victims are held for ransom. More than $1 million in ransom has been paid, mostly by poor residents of a country in which the average monthly income is under $100.
