CWN - The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church has announced that, in a change of policy, it will no longer bury bishops in church sanctuaries.

The Syro-Malabar Church, which claims nearly 6 million members in India, will now provide tombs for bishops in church crypts and cemetery chapels, the Church synod announced. A spokesman explained that the decision was “in tune with the times,” as the church sanctuary was regarded as a sacred space for both clergy and laity.
