CWN - A group of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders has called upon President Barack Obama to “work with Israel and [the] Palestinian Authority to achieve a negotiated two-state peace agreement before it is too late.”
“Active, fair and firm US leadership in such a bold peace initiative will require strong, public support, especially from religious communities,” the National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East stated in its January 21 letter. “We pledge to mobilize support from our members in synagogues, churches and mosques across the country.”
Signatories included Bishop Oscar Cantú, who serves as chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace, and Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
