VATICAN CITY, APRIL 29, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The positive relationship between Lithuania and the Holy See is the "fruit of reciprocal confidence," reported the Vatican after Benedict XVI received the country's president in audience.
The Holy Father received Valdas Adamkus in audience Saturday. After the private 20-minute audience, the 80-year-old president also met with Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
According to a note published by the Holy See, "in the course of the discussion satisfaction was expressed over the good relations that exist between the Holy See and Lithuania. The quality of these relations is the fruit of reciprocal confidence and a desire to cooperate."
The Vatican communiqué added: "There was also a highlighting of the ideas and proposals for the contribution that the Catholic Church can offer for the good of the whole nation, hoping for a more and more concrete collaboration.
"The meeting also provided an occasion to share information and reflections on the role that Lithuania plays in the European Union and on its relations with neighboring countries."
