His Eminence received a warm welcome when he arrived there the previous night, by Abbot Joseph and the brotherhood of the monastery and a number of pious visitors, who had come to the monastery on the occasion of the Archbishop’s visit.
In the morning of Nov. 18 Archbishop Demetrios presided at the Divine Liturgy in the Monastery’s church, which was attended by many visitors. During the Divine Liturgy His Eminence ordained monk Stephanos Gianakouros to the deaconate and deacon Michael Santos to the priesthood, who had been ordained a deacon the previous day, by His Grace Bishop Andonios of Phasiane.
Just before the end of the Liturgy the Archbishop addressing the congregation underlined the importance of the holy priesthood, which is the sacrament that completely changes a person. “The bishop, the priest, the deacon and by extension the monk, must live as Saint Paul says in his letter to the Galatians ‘I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me’ (Gal. 2:20) The true clergyman, the bishop, the priest, the deacon, are people who have been crucified with Christ and they must feel that Christ lives in them,” said His Eminence.
The Archbishop concluded with a wish and a prayer: “I pray that the two new clergymen, who from today on enrich the priestly ranks of this Holy Monastery, along with all the other clergy, be always icons and witnesses and reflections of Jesus Christ in every aspect.”
A meal for the Archbishop, the clergy, the monastic brotherhood and the guests followed in the monastery’s trapeza.

Kiev - On November 18, 2009, a meeting of Patriarch Lubomyr, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, took place at the office of the patriarchal curia with Hryhoriy Komendant, president of the Biblical society, and the members of the administration. During the meeting the issue of further cooperation of the Biblical Society and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the field of the construction of the "Bible House" in Kyiv, on Baumana street, 18, was discussed.
Another question of the meeting was the exchange of ideas about the necessity to distribute the Bible in Ukraine.
Among the suggestions which were expressed by Patriarch Lubomyr in particular were the following:
• as part of the newly built "Bible House" create a biblical sciences library;
• to prepare for the publication of domestic Bibles – a special edition where it would be possible to write in a genealogy;
• during the conduction of the Week of Prayers for the Unity of Christians to hold a "Bible Day.”
At the completion of the meeting the head of the UGCC asked all to pray that God’s Word always act between people.

Kiev - According to the good tradition the Caritas of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy began the charitable project “Saint Nicholas is in each of us” to help those in need and mentally disabled children. With the money collected during the action Caritas will make gifts for the children, who will be able to stay in this fairy tale night without a small miracle that every child expects each year.
Special money-boxes with the logo of Caritas and information about the action will be placed in Drohobych, Sambir, Truskavets, Boryslav, and Stebnyk. These boxes can be found in shops, banks, pharmacies, gas stations, and public institutions. In these money-boxes one can make their own offering to the needs of children on St. Nicholas Day.
A new event of this year’s charitable project will be a one day action in the center of Drohobych. One of the trees will be festively decorated and letters with histories of people in need will be attached to it. The workers and volunteers of Caritas will distribute these letters to the habitants of Drohobych. To help those in need it will be possible to donate money during the event. The money collected in this action will be exclusively for help of the specific individuals.
“The action ‘Saint Nicholas is in each of us’ is a little ray of hope for all the unfortunate children in these difficult times. We hope that it will inspire you to help those in need and to be a merciful and good Saint Nicolas,” said Iryna Dzyurakh, coordinator of the action.
To join the action it is possible to make a donation with one’s bank account to Caritas with the note “Charitable action of Saint Nicholas is in each of us.” Donations can also be made personally at Caritas.
