CWN - The Jesuit priest who has been missing in Syria since late July is alive and well, but is being held by a rebel group with ties to Al-Qaida, the AKI news service reports
Father Paolo Dall’Oglio disappeared on July 28, after he entered Syria, apparently in an attempt to negotiate the release of hostages held by rebel forces. He was apparently taken hostage himself, and in the subsequent weeks, there have been occasional reports of his death. The Vatican has said that it cannot confirm any reports about his status.
Father Dall’Oglio was expelled from Syria last year, with the government charging that he was aiding rebel groups. He has apparently entered the country illegally several times to attempt peace negotiations.
