Policeman killed in new assault on Coptic Orthodox church in Egypt

CWN - Islamic militants attacked a Coptic Orthodox church in Giza, Egypt on January 28, and a police officer who responded to the disturbance was killed by gunfire.

Police arrested two men, both members of Islam extremist groups, after the attack on the Church of the Virgin Mary, the AsiaNews service reported. Coptic Pope Tawadros II decried the violence, and sent his condolences to the family of the slain police officer. A spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church said that security measures would be stepped up at parish churches in light of the continued violence against Christian targets.
