CWN - Three thousand Iraqi Christians who have fled the advance of the Islamic State are now being fed at parishes in Jordan, according to Archbishop Maroun Lahham, who serves as an auxiliary bishop of Jerusalem.

Another 1,000 refugees are expected to arrive within days.

“Nobody wants to go back to Iraq, and everyone is trying to get a visa to Australia or America,” the prelate told the Fides news agency. “In this sense, the choices of Western embassies risk in their own way, to heavily contribute to the disappearance of the Christian presence in the Middle East.”
