CWN - Orthodox monks at the ancient St. Catherine’s Monastery in Egypt’s Sinai region have denied reports that the monastery was attacked by Islamic militants, the Fides news service reports.

St. Catherine’s Monastery, believed to be the oldest Christian monastery still in active use, houses an invaluable collection of icons and manuscripts. Reports of an attack on the monastery were circulated, the resident monks said, as part of a “false and irresponsible” propaganda campaign designed to draw attention to the suffering of Christians in predominantly Muslim lands.
