CWN - Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill has called for national unity, urging the Russian people not to be troubled by economic sanctions.
“Today we face the problem of foreign sanctions,” the Orthodox leader said. He encouraged the faithful not to be troubled by the sanctions or preoccupied by economic pressures that might result. “To prevent troubles in minds, we shouldn’t lose sight of our national good.”
Patriarch Kirill was clearly referring to the sanctions imposed on Russia by the European Union and the United States after Russia annexed the Crimea, seizing the territory from Ukraine.
“Russia has never been afraid of external enemies,” the Russian prelate said in his exhortation for national unity.
