CWN - The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has again said that Christians have the duty to defend their nation.
“For the first time in the post-[Second World] war years, people need to give their lives and shed blood for their country’s independence,” said Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, according to The Tablet. “But God’s power is able to extinguish any conflict and confrontation – and people who hope in God remain undefeated and can defend their country and state.”
Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh, who serves in the Eastern Catholic church’s curia, welcomed European and American sanctions against Russia.
Stating that Russian actions in Ukraine threaten “the entire world,” the prelate called the sanctions a “necessary step to stop the Kremlin and end the carnage.”
